My friend Allison wrote this post over on her blog and I was inspired to do the same.
This summer has been like none other I have had to date. It’s fabulous. It has also caused many tears and doubts along the way as well. All in all, looking back I am invigorated and excited about where we are as a family and as well as what I am up to professionally.
We started! Then I hated our curriculum. In all fairness, I don’t hate it. I chose it based on the wonderful and very helpful book by *Cathy Duffy,101 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum. Our problem was that we answered all her very helpful questions based on ideals. Ideally I would have 2 hours a day to prep and an unlimited budget to buy supplies. That was not the case. I was spending way to much time adjusting the curriculum to fit us. Based on what other seasoned homeschool Moms were saying, that is a red flag and I shouldn’t be in tears every evening prepping for the next day. We read *The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home (Third Edition) by recommendation from my wonderful friend Jody over at BecauseImMe.net. We fell in love with the concepts and also found a program called Classical Conversations. We have melded the two together to create a curriculum that we hope will work for us going forward. So far, so good!
The swimming pool was our focus this summer. We all benefitted from the slower pace of just hanging out at the pool for hours a day.
I was asked to be part of a book! It’s still hush-hush at the moment, writing a chapter to be included with the heavyweights that are my co-authors was a bit intimidating and took MUCH longer than I though it would. I am glad to have my chapter submitted for edit and will share the news the soon as I am able. *squee!
My sister Vanessa and I have launched a new website called Free Homeschool Printable. We share all the wonderful homeschool resources that we find while searching for our own children. I designed everything myself and am giddy every-time I look at it. If you create educational or printables for kids, please use the Submit A Printable link and share it with us!
New look and new home. The Blogging411 Show has a new home! It is now hosted by NC Blogger Network We think that the network is a perfect fit for the show and are excited to see where the show is headed for the rest of 2014.
My Blogging411 co-host Allison Carter and I started a new project this summer. It has been an exciting ride so far. The work has been immense. We have laughed, debated and been completely honored to have received so much community support right from the start. If you are a North Carolina blogger, check out our site at NCBloggerNetwork.com
This leads me to my last update. I hope, because typing this all out is making me tired!
ProBlogging MiniCon is our amazing launch event for the NC Blogger Network. We have pulled some of our favorite local powerhouse bloggers together for an intimate panel discussion on topics like, working with brands, seo and so much more. It is being held tonight and I am as giddy as a school girl. The event has my two favorite elements. Incredible knowledge and powerful networking.
So there you have it. What I have been up to this summer. What was your summer like?
Moving forward, we will be adding a few more posts into the week. If you have a favorite topic that we talk about, I would love to hear the feedback from you. We are incredibly blessed to have each and everyone of you in our lives. When I sit down to write, I always feel like I am sitting on my couch just talking to a girlfriend about my day. Thank you for reading and keeping up with us through the summer, no matter what you were up to. Fall is just around the corner!
