It’s been six years since our family has had professional pictures taken. SIX YEARS. We pretty much missed our boys’ entire childhood! Okay, that may be a tad dramatic, but seriously it’s time to get that taken care of. Of course the first thing that I thought of was that I get to dress the kids up! We are in a season of our life where we are just not required to dress up all that often. Our church is casual, so the boys can get away with wearing shorts and polo shirts. For these pictures, I wanted something a little more… bowties!
My favorite shop for custom made boys’ attire is Because I’m Me on Etsy. It doesn’t hurt that the owner Jody has been a dear friend of mine for over 20 years. Oh my goodness, are we even old enough to be able to say that?! It’s the truth. I did the math. It’s actually 22 years. I love her style and hopped on the store to shop. I quickly picked out 7 ties that I loved. The problem is I only have two children. That means I only have two necks to dress. Hm…
Since I already knew what shirts the boys were going to wear, I requested that Jody pick out two ties that she thought would go well together. I didn’t want to order the same tie for each boy and mixing and matching patterns is not really a strong suit of mine. I do much better with solid colors.
A few days later the ties arrived and I could have been happier!
Then the rain came. It rained for days and the bow ties were just waiting to be worn. But it rained… and rained… and then it rained some more. So we did what any sane person would do while waiting for the rain to stop so that you can finally take a nice picture of your kids. We dressed Charlie up. He doesn’t usually wear a collar, so we weren’t sure how it would go. He must have known he looked handsome because he posed so nicely for us.
Then the sun came out and we rushed outside to take some pictures!
I really love how the ties popped off the boys’ shirts, but were not distracting. The boys loved the patterns and said that they looked grown up. They are very concerned these days about looking grown up. This made the picture taking process MUCH easier and the smiles came naturally to their faces. Wouldn’t you agree? 😉
Take some time to visit Jody:
and tell her how much you loved her ties!
